“Kim, I’m slowly creeping into my sabbatical, and am gently tip-toeing into the generosities given to me from you and from Francis and from Paul.
I think others in the group have already written about the brilliance of the form taken by your stamp idea — with an intimate size that encourages sure yet gentle touch and gentle handling. I doubt I can add more about how creativeness & delight taken by this form.
What I *can* offer is that your series — resting beside my keyboard in natural light as I write this — brought tears to my eyes, a pride in being Canadian, and pride in what is the best within us as Canadians. The image of the two flags (national flag and the rainbow flag) is perhaps what sparked much of this response of mine — after all the tumult we have experienced as citizens and neighbours and friends with the trucker protests, their forms of revenge-filled anger against simply letting people love who they love, after all this your images act as a peaceful respite. I’m quite verklempt at the moment. The additional images from the outdoors that you love so much, and of Stephen, and the energy of cities and communities — they all swirl together in what I’m experiencing. This series / sequence is a wonderful window onto some facets of being a Canadian that I had kinda forgotten.
As I travel to Germany and Ireland later this year, my experience of your collection here will put a different energy into what I say when people ask me where I’m from, and as I reply with “Ich bin Kanadier” and “I am Canadian”.
