Greetings & Welcome
~ Take a few moments today to reflect on what you care about in your community and surroundings ~
Hi, I’m Kim. Friends and relatives describe me as a creative, curious adventurer with a caring soul. You know – the one with the camera quietly making connections and nurturing relationships. To balance this image a little, I should add that I can be quite tenacious – aka single minded, obsessive, and mildly annoying – at times. I am a photo hobbyist, community champion, and … a wanderer at heart. I love exploring unusual places, ideas and challenges.
For over forty years I studied and worked in the fields of community development and environmental management. I graduated with an M.A. in Rural Development from the University of Guelph and a B.E.S. in Environment & Resource Management from the University of Waterloo. I have worked in all sectors – private, public and non-profit – in many roles and on too many topics to list here. I helped bring people together to resolve complex issues, develop capabilities and turn goals into realities. Then, a few short years ago I graduated from my consulting career!
My life has shifted but my mission has not. I’m still passionate about community, creative problem solving, and caring for our environment. I continue to be an active learner and volunteer. And I love visual & verbal storytelling. If these topics also resonate for you, please read on.
My website offers a way to:
- Share knowledge – with insights, takeaway tools, and other resources,
- Inspire curiosity – through real life stories and creative works, and
- Stay connected – with an invitation to contact (or re-connect!) with me.
To feel like I’m making a real difference in the world. The older I get, the more I realize that making a difference might not have great magnitude but as long as I can achieve deep, meaningful and positive change no matter how small, I know it’s a step forward.
I live in Victoria British Columbia, traditional territory and home to the Coast Salish Lekwungen speaking peoples. Surrounded on three sides by ocean waters, Victoria is a truly beautiful and bountiful place.
I’ve been humbled by amazing places across much of Canada, as well as other countries such as: UK, USA, Australia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Laos, Thailand, St. Lucia, Belize, Hungary, Spain, and Turkey. I love to explore big cities & villages; neighbourhoods & open markets; tropical forests, northern rivers & alpine meadows.
My internal wanderings have ranged far and wide – weaving through the complexities of ecological integrity, capacity building, socially shared values, cultural landscapes, community economic development, and inter-cultural competence.
My travels help me reach out, learn, and keep an open heart.
The natural world… magical moments… the kindness of strangers… friends and family… and Stephen, the love of my life.
